Man With Loaded, Stolen Gun Arrested During Traffic Stop In Cranford

The gun was later found to have been reported stolen out of North Carolina, said Cranford Police.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Union County man with a loaded and stolen gun was arrested following a traffic stop on Raritan Road on Tuesday night, said Cranford Police.

At around 7:35 p.m., Officer Liam Duffy stopped a gray 2007 BMW for moving violations in the area of Raritan Road and Moen Avenue. Officers Joshua Sousa and Travis Freeman were then called as backup.

During the motor vehicle investigation, Duffy found a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer revolver containing 11 rounds of ammunition, said police.

The suspect, later identified as passenger Sherrod Green, 22, of Linden, was taken into custody without incident.

The gun was later found to have been reported stolen out of North Carolina.

Green was charged with second-degree possession of a firearm, third-degree possession of a stolen firearm and third-degree certain persons prohibited from possessing a firearm.He was then taken to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.

In addition, the driver of the vehicle was issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to signal, improper turn, careless driving, and failure to provide a driver's license.
