Man Shot By 'Splat Gun' At Mindowaskin Park In Westfield: Blotter

A suspicious person taking photographs of children playing on First Street was also reported.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A man reported being shot by a "splat gun" at Mindowaskin Park in Westfield, according to the latest police blotter.

The 18-year-old man reported being shot on May 17 at 9 p.m. by the "splat gun," which is a toy pellet-type gun or an airsoft gun that shoots soft water-based gel balls or beads.

A group of juveniles were found in the central business district and were brought back to Police Headquarters for additional questioning with their parents.

This incident has been referred to the Juvenile Bureau for additional investigation.

On May 15 at 2:09 p.m.: Officers Bace and Riley conducted a motor vehicle stop on E. Broad Street and Elmer Street based on a license plate reader hit for a wanted person. Wydeia Richards, 33, of Brooklyn, NY, was placed under arrest and taken to Clark Police Department.

On May 16 at 12:50 p.m.: A resident reported seeing a suspicious person taking photographs of children playing in the area of the 300 block of First Street. The suspect was described as a black adult man, short black hair, light blue jacket, yellow shirt and dark colored pants. He was unable to be located.

On May 18 at 9:46 a.m.: A black-colored TREK Marlin 4 Mountain bike was abandoned on the 500 block of First Street. It was secured at WPD Headquarters.

On May 18 at 9:44 p.m.: A resident reported that they were the victim of fraudulent charges to a credit card account. The resident said that someone made fraudulent charges without his approval or authorization. The resident reports there were two separate sets of incidents of fraudulent charges attempted at two separate businesses. The resident said two fraudulent charges occurred and they took the appropriate reported actions. At this time, it is unknown if the resident will suffer a financial loss from the unauthorized use of his account. Additionally, the resident reported at the same time that $150 in cash was stolen as well. It is unknown if these two incidents are related.
