Man Wanted In Fatal Stabbing At Plainfield Train Station Arrested In PA

Aswad J. Spruiel, 44, of Plainfield was arrested on Friday by the U.S. Marshals.

PLAINFIELD, NJ — A Plainfield man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing at the Plainfield Train Station in 2023 was arrested on Friday in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Plainfield Police Director James T. Abney announced Monday.

Aswad J. Spruiel, 44, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

At around 2 p.m. on July 6, 2023, Plainfield Police Officers and NJ Transit Police Officers went to the Plainfield Train Station on 4th Street and found Juquin Smith, 45, who suffered stab wounds, said Daniel.

Smith was taken to a local area hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Spruiel was arrested on May 10, 2024, by the US Marshals and is currently in custody in the
Northumberland County Prison in PA, awaiting extradition.
