Mental Health Crisis Prompts Police Response, Road Closure In Rahway

Whittier Street between W. Grand Avenue and Union Street was closed on Tuesday due to the police activity.

RAHWAY, NJ — A mental health crisis prompted a police response and a road closure on Tuesday in Rahway.

On Nov. 19, Rahway Police Department officers were called to a mental health crisis on the 1700 block of Whittier Street.

With help from the Union County Emergency Response Team, negotiators successfully convinced the person to leave the home peacefully, said Rahway Police.

The person was safely taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"This incident underscores our department's commitment to the safety and well-being of every member of our community," said Chief Law Enforcement Officer Captain Shawn Ganley. "I commend the professionalism of our officers and the Union County Emergency Response Team for their coordinated efforts in resolving this crisis safely and compassionately."
