Duck Flies Head First Into Fence, Rescued By Mountainside Police: Video

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — What looked to be a horrible end for one duck turned into a nice turn of events with officers rescuing the trapped duck on Tuesday. (see the rescue below)
On May 16 at around 9 a.m. when Patti Gentesse Filiaci was playing pickleball with her group at the Mountainside Municipal tennis courts at 1385 Route 22 when they saw the duck fly head-first into a chain link fence.
The duck's neck was stuck in one of the links which prompted the group to call the police.

"It was so sad, my Pickleball group saw it happen and we really thought he was dead," said Filiaci.
Police Officers John Hagan and Eric Pastore went to the court and found the duck. Hagan climbed the ladder with Pastore helping him, said Mountainside Police Chief Joseph Giannuzzi.

The officers were able to free the duck who promptly flew away.
It was "such a happy ending," said Filiaci.
