New Assistant Principal Appointed In Westfield

WESTFIELD, NJ — Dr. Paul Duncan was appointed as assistant principal of Franklin Elementary School by the Westfield Board of Education during its public meeting on Aug. 29.

Duncan was selected out of the more than 120 applicants who were screened. He will assume the role previously held by Scott Lipson, who recently accepted a school principal position in Morris County.

“I am confident that Dr. Duncan is an excellent fit for Westfield and the Franklin School community,” Superintendent Dr. Margaret Dolan said. “We welcome his desire to make a difference in the lives of young people and his commitment to fostering excellence in education."

Duncan previously served for more than 10 years as a fourth-and fifth-grade teacher in Warren Township and also served as assistant principal and supervisor of the district’s summer school. He also co-chaired Warren’s Technology Subcommittee to assist Warren’s strategic planning efforts.

Duncan earned a Doctor of Education degree from Rutgers University and he also holds Master of Education degrees from Rutgers and the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania.

“I am truly honored to be joining the Westfield Public School District because of its commitment to educational excellence," Duncan said. "I am excited to be part of Dr. Cambria’s team of educators at Franklin, and I look forward to serving Franklin’s community of students and parents. I’ve already received a warm welcome!”

The interview committee for the Franklin Elementary School Assistant Principal’s position included Franklin School Principal Eileen Cambria and teachers Kerry Lyman and Nancy Rygiel; Human Resources Specialist, Barbara Ball; and District K-12 Supervisors Regina Kiczek – Mathematics, Tom Patterson – Science and Andrea Lo – Special Education.
