One Westfield Place

Our opinion

To the Editor:

We have been homeowners in Westfield for 37 years. Over those years both of us have been active community volunteers. Lisa taught in the district for 23 years. We raised our children here and now our children are raising our grandchildren here. We have a lot invested in this town. Over the years we have seen the town grow and also stagnate. In our opinion the prospect of One Westfield Place seems to us a chance to revitalize our downtown with both commercial space and in-town living; the latter enabling senior homeowners wanting to “sell and simplify” a chance to continue to live comfortably in our beloved Westfield.

One of the concerns a certain group has brought up about the plan is traffic congestion. In the past this concern has proven to be overblown. Remember the proposed North Avenue Shoprite project? The building was moved only a few feet into Garwood. Traffic congestion never materialized.

One Westfield Place is a comprehensive plan for progress and most if not all of it deserves to be adopted. Don’t just say no! Educate yourself!

We applaud Mayor Brindle and the town council for shepherding this plan through to the point where it can now be presented to Westfield residents.
