KENILWORTH, NJ — The Kenilworth Police is reminding residents to be on alert regarding the many different types of phone scams currently being used to swindle money.
The police have received several complaints regarding these phone calls in the last few days, Kenilworth Police Detective Ed Paster told Patch.
"Fortunately, we have no reported victims at this time and the message was posted so that residents can be on alert for any of these phone calls," Paster said. "Hopefully this will prevent any of our residents from becoming a victim!"

Here are some scams police noted:
- Any phone calls they receive claiming to be from the IRS and that you owe them money to avoid arrest are a scam.
- Any other phone calls they receive about family emergencies or family members being held hostage and requesting money are also a scam. If you get a phone call from someone claiming this feel free to notify the Kenilworth Police Department and do not negotiate or pay them any money.
- If there are any emergent notifications that need to be made, a police officer will make the notification in person. Any other official notification will be made via U.S. Mail.
Residents can contact the Kenilworth Police Department at 908-276-1700 for any questions or concerns.
