Porch Pirates, DWI Arrest, Criminal Mischief Reported In Westfield

One resident reported someone threw eggs at their vehicle as it was parked on the roadway.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Package thefts, a DWI arrest, criminal mischief, and more were reported recently in Westfield.

Westfield Police Blotter – Nov. 24 to Nov. 30:

On Nov. 26 at 2:47 p.m.: Bernard Washington, 56, of Plainfield, was arrested for shoplifting, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia following an investigation at a business in the 200 block of East North Avenue. The business owner contacted Westfield Police reporting the shoplifting of around $227 worth of goods while providing a description of the suspect. Washington was found on North Avenue in Scotch Plains by Detectives Jaramillo and Santangelo shortly after the call, and was placed under arrest following an on-scene investigation. He was processed and released on a summons with a mandatory Westfield Municipal Court.

On Nov. 26 at 5:32 p.m.: A resident of the 600 block of Benson Place reports that his bicycle was stolen from the Northside Train Lot bicycle rack at some point on Nov. 26. The bicycle is described as a light blue "Specialized" with an original value of $700 when purchased. The bicycle was locked with a chain and coded lock when left during morning hours.

On Nov. 27 at 10:34 a.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Clarence Street reported an incident of theft. According to the resident, an unknown suspect approached his residence and stole a mail package from his front porch. The package contents are valued at approximately $45.

On Nov. 27 at 1:50 p.m.: A resident in the area of Bell Drive and Arthur Place reported a package theft that just occurred. The resident saw on Ring camera, the suspect walk to the front porch of the property and remove an Amazon package which was delivered. The resident stated the person approached the front door, retrieved the package, and fled the area.

On Nov. 28 at 2:41 a.m.: Michael Crotty, 46, Westfield, was arrested for being impaired while having operation of his motor vehicle in the parking lot of the Westfield North Avenue Train Station. Crotty was taken to the Westfield Police Department where he was processed and released with a pending court date.

On Nov. 29 at 6:17 p.m.: Bria Singletary, 30, Hillside, was arrested on the strength of multiple outstanding traffic warrants following a traffic stop in the area of Elm Street and Quimby Street. Singletary was released on her own recognizance after being processed for $1,000 warrant issued by the Union Municipal Court and an additional warrant for $1,000 issued by the Springfield Municipal Court.

On Nov. 30 at 1:17 a.m.: Ryasia Jones, 22, Plainfield, was arrested on the strength of an outstanding traffic warrant following a traffic stop in the area of West South Avenue and Crossway Place. Jones was released on her own recognizance after being processed for a $1,500 warrant issued by the Middlesex Borough Municipal Court.

On Nov. 30 at 5 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Castleman Drive reported being the victim of criminal mischief. The resident stated that between Nov. 27 and Nov. 30 an unknown person threw eggs at their vehicle as it was parked on the roadway, breaking the rear brake light.
