Pure Pita Cited For Repeated Health Violations
Inaccessible hand-washing sinks, under-cooked chicken, a faulty hot water heater and more were cited by the Westfield Health Department

Westfield, NJ -- Pure Pita in Westfield almost had its food license suspended by the Westfield Regional Health Department.
Located at 106 Central Avenue, Pure Pita had its third unsatisfactory or conditional satisfactory rating and was the subject of a Board Hearing on April 4.

- Inaccessible hand-washing sinks,
- under-cooked chicken,
- a faulty hot water heater
- and erratic cooling issues within a commercial refrigerator,
- no certified food protection manager,
- employees did not follow proper procedure for washing hands,
- no paper towels at the hand washing station,
- potentially hazardous food in the basement was not holding at 41 [degrees] or below,
- some food items that were improperly cooled,
- food being stored in the walk-in box was directly on the floor,
- and no thermometer in the refrigerator

In response to these ratings, the restaurant’s owner agreed to improve procedures.

"A suspension of the food license was held in abeyance and will be implemented for any rating less than Satisfactory during the next year," stated Lawrence Budnick, President of the Westfield Board of Health.
A follow-up inspection is scheduled for later this week.
