RIS to Celebrate Purple Day in Honor of Elle Haley

The eighth grader received 35 percent of her father's liver last August.

Dress in “PURPLE DAY” will be held at Westfield’s Roosevelt Intermediate School on Friday, April 12th to raise awareness for COTA (Children’s Organ Transplant Association) in honor of 14 yr. old Elle Haley who recently had a Liver Transplant.  An 8th grader at Roosevelt Middle School, Elle was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis the first week of June 2012. While waiting for an organ donor, Elle became critically ill with Sepsis and was hospitalized at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in NYC in July, where they determined that she needed a transplant as soon as possible. On August 7th, Elle received 35% of her dad, Drew’s liver.

The “PURPLE DAY” fundraiser will encourage every child to donate a dollar to COTA in honor of Elle. They will each receive a yellow “Making Miracles” circle that will be displayed on a bulletin board with their name on it.

COTA is  giving hope and making miracles for Elle and kids like Elle all over the U.S. that need Organ, Tissue, or Stem Cell transplants. So…everyone dress in purple on “PURPLE DAY” and honor Elle and all transplant recipients!
