Shoplifting, Fraud, Theft Reported In Westfield
Westfield Police released the blotter for the past week.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Shoplifting, fraud and theft were reported recently in last week's police blotter in Westfield.
Westfield Police Blotter from Oct. 15 to Oct. 21:
On Oct. 14 at 1:37 p.m.: A business in the 1100 block of W. South Avenue reported a shoplifting that occurred. The approximate value of the shoplifting is more than $400. The actor selected various items and concealed the items in a bag. The actor then left the business without paying for said items. There was a delay in the reporting of this incident and no search of the area for the actor was conducted.

On Oct. 17 at 3:20 p.m.: A resident from the 700 block of Knollwood Terrace reported that someone used their identity to access an account with a financial institution. The actor(s) then electronically transferred a large amount of funds from the resident’s account. These fraudulently transferred funds were removed from the account they were transferred into another account that the victim does not have access to. Currently, the victim has suffered a monetary loss.
On Oct. 18 at 3:47 p.m.: A business in the 1100 block of W. South Avenue reports a shoplifting that occurred. There is no approximate value of the shoplifting at this time. The actor selected various items and concealed the items in a bag. The actor then left the business without paying for said items. A search of the area for the actor provided negative results.

On Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.: As a result of a police investigation, Ovidiu Rostas, 30, and Rozalia Munteanu, 27, both of Elmhurst, New York, were charged with theft by deception from a retail establishment near the 1100 block of West South Avenue. They were both issued a criminal complaint summons to appear in Union County Superior Court in the near future.
