Shoplifting, Simple Assault, Theft Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police released the blotter for Nov. 5 to Nov. 11.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Shoplifting, simple assault, theft, and more were reported in the last week in Westfield.

Westfield Police Blotter from Nov. 5 to 11:

On Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.: The victim reported their shop vacuum was stolen. The resident is unsure if the vacuum was outside or inside a common area of the property on E. Grove St. and Boynton Ave. when it was stolen. The value of the stolen item is approximately $250.

On Nov. 9 at 2:14 p.m.: A business in the 300 block of W. South Avenue reports a shoplifting that occurred. The approximate value of the shoplifting is over $100. The actor selected an item and concealed the item on their person. The actor then left the business without paying for said item.

On Nov. 10 at 2:39 p.m.: Michael DeFazio, 38, Westfield, was arrested on the strength of a criminal warrant from Hillsborough. DeFazio was also a wanted person in the NCIC database regarding this same warrant. DeFazio was arrested and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters. DeFazio was processed at Westfield Police Headquarters and turned over to Hillsborough Police Department.

On Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.: Ari Perez, 55, West Orange, was arrested for simple assault in Mindowaskin Park. Perez pushed a sign away from his face into the victim’s face, resulting in a minor injury, in the presence of police officers. Perez was charged with simple assault and released with a summons.
