Smash And Grab Burglar Steals Electronics From Westfield Store: Police
The latest Westfield Police blotter also included multiple car burglaries last week.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A "smash and grab" burglary by a masked suspect was reported at a Westfield store on Friday.
On July 21 at 4 a.m., a manager of a business located on the 100 block of Central Avenue reported forced entry into his business establishment.
Video surveillance showed the actor, described as a male wearing dark-colored clothing and a face mask, using a hammer to smash the door glass in order to get inside, said Westfield Police.

Electronics were stolen totaling around $5,650. The actor fled the scene and is currently at large.

On July 17 at 4:11 p.m.: Westfield Patrol Officers located a U-Haul box truck reported stolen out of East Orange on South Avenue and Central Avenue. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and placed the driver Justin Martinho, 33, of Union and passenger Michael Enriquez, 27, Newark under arrest for unlawful taking of a means of conveyance. They were processed and released with a mandatory Union County Superior Court date
On July 18 at 1:25 p.m.: An anonymous resident found property on July 18 near the intersection of East Broad Street and Elm Street. The property is described as a thin gold necklace containing circular silver accents. The property is in safekeeping at the Westfield Police Department.
On July 18 at 11:25 p.m.: A resident reports that an unknown actor burglarized their vehicle while their vehicle was parked in their driveway. The actor opened an unlocked door of the resident's vehicle and entered the vehicle. There were no items taken from the vehicle, nor was there any damage to the vehicle.
On July 18 at 11:32 p.m.: A resident of the 800 block of Village Green reports an attempted burglary to two vehicles that were parked in his private driveway. The victim reports that a black male suspect, wearing gray and black hoodie, black shorts and white sneakers, pulled on the door handles, attempting to gain entry. The suspect then flees the area in a dark-colored vehicle.
On July 18 at 11:48 p.m.: A resident of Bates Way and Talcott Road reports two vehicles parked in his driveway were burglarized overnight. Although no key fobs were located inside the vehicles, both vehicles were left unlocked. No valuables are known to have been taken from the vehicles, other than miscellaneous paperwork which was found discarded on a neighboring roadway.
On July 19 at 12:37 a.m.: A 44-year-old woman from Mountainside was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on Prospect Street, near the intersection of Hamilton Avenue. She was taken to Westfield Police Department where she was processed and released with a future court date.
On July 19 at 4:32 a.m.: A resident of the 0-100 block of Wychview Drive reports a criminal trespass into his garage and subsequent theft of two bicycles. In the early morning hours of July 19 an unknown suspect entered the victim's garage and took two bicycles with an estimated combined value of $3,250 before fleeing the scene. The bicycles are described as a 20-speed Canondale and an E-Bike 500.
On July 19 at 8 a.m.: A resident of the 800 block of Village Green reports a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim's vehicle was parked in their driveway during the overnight hours between July 18 and July 19. An unknown suspect entered the vehicle and rummaged through the interior. There are no items reported missing at this time.
On July 19 at 3:49 p.m.: A representative for a business in the 1100 block of W. South Avenue reported that a theft by deception occurred previously. The representative stated actors made a large transaction that required the counting of bills. The actors then distracted the employee. While the employee was distracted, the actors removed some of the money that was already counted. The actors then completed the transaction for the full amount, although a portion of the money owed was removed. The loss was in a monetary amount of over $1,000.
On July 19: As a result of a police investigation, Larry Fields, 61, Rosellewas charged with receiving stolen property. Fields was found in possession of a stolen bicycle that was taken from the South Avenue Train Station in Westfield. The value of the bicycle was approximately $1,000. Fields was issued a complaint summons with a municipal court date on Aug. 15.
On July 20 at 9:06 a.m.: A resident of the 800 block of Mountain Avenue reports that unknown actor(s) contacted them and deceived them into allowing access to accounts with financial institutions. Said actor(s) then directed the victim to electronically transfer a large amount of funds from the resident’s account to another account. These fraudulently transferred funds were removed from the account they were transferred into another account. Currently the victim has suffered a monetary loss.
On July 20 at 3:14 p.m.: A 200 block of Ayliffe Avenue resident reports being a victim of criminal mischief that led to theft from their vehicle. The resident reported an issue with their vehicle and upon mechanical inspection, learned that their exhaust system to the vehicle had been damaged and the catalytic converter for the vehicle was stolen. The cost of the damage as well as the cost to replace the catalytic converter is believed to be over $1,000.
On July 20 at 7:37 p.m.: Monique Adams, 53, of Roselle, was arrested on Elmer Street, near the intersection of East North Avenue, on the strength of a Linden Municipal Contempt of Court Warrant. Monique Adams was released roadside with a new Linden Municipal Court date.
