After the car crashed, three people inside got out and ran away from police on foot, said Westfield Police.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A stolen car trying to run away from police ends up crashing into another car and two telephone poles on Saturday night, said Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro.
On Oct. 29, at around 9:41 p.m., Westfield Police got an alert from one of their stationary LPR (license plate reader) cameras of a reported stolen vehicle driving north on Central Avenue.
A Westfield Police Officer found that the vehicle, a white 2020 BMW 330, was reported stolen from Randolph, said Battiloro.

Officers tried to stop the BMW while it was driving east on E. North Avenue from Central Avenue but its driver refused to stop for the officer, said Battiloro.
The stolen car was fleeing from police at a high rate of speed when it crashed into another vehicle, a 2021 Tesla, on E. North Avene at the intersection of S. Euclid Avenue, said Battiloro.

The stolen car then crashed into two different telephone poles on the 500 block of E. North Avenue, splitting the first one and then hitting the second one head-on, causing it to snap in half.
The crash caused the stolen car to become disabled and its driver and two other people in the vehicle fled on foot, said Battiloro.
Officers chased them over the railroad tracks towards the 300 block of E South Avenue.
Following an extensive search of the area, one person, a 16-year-old man from Newark, was located on the 300 block of E. South Avenue. He was arrested and charged with resisting arrest by flight and receiving stolen property and later released to the custody of a parent/guardian.
The crash caused extensive damage to electrical infrastructure on the 500 block of E. North Avenue. PSE&G worked throughout the day on Sunday making repairs.
The two other suspects could not be located. Westfield Police's investigation of this matter is ongoing.
