Stolen Political Signs, Fraud, Shoplifting Reported In Westfield
Theft of a package and an EZ Pass were also reported in Town last week.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Thefts of political signs, mail packages, and an EZ Pass were reported last week, according to the Westfield Police's latest blotter.
Westfield Police Blotter – Sept. 24 to Sept. 30:
On Sept. 26 at 9:26 p.m.: A business in the 200 block of East North Avenue reported being the victim of shoplifting. Employees stated a black man dressed in all black carrying a red bag entered their store and removed several dozen medication boxes from the shelves before leaving without paying. The total amount of items stolen was $2,095.75.

On Sept. 27 at 4:58 p.m.: A business owner from the 300 block of East South Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. An unknown man entered the business and rented a vehicle with a suspected fake identification and fraudulent credit card.
On Sept. 27 at 6:52 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Clark Street reported that three political signs that he had posted on his front lawn had been removed by an unknown person.

On Sept. 27 at 8:11 p.m.: A resident of Carol Road reported fraudulent use of their EZ Pass unit. The resident states they observed transactions totaling $600 beginning in May 2023 which led to the discovery of their EZ Pass tag being stolen from their vehicle.
On Sept. 28 at 11:33 a.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Saint Marks Avenue reported a theft of a license plate. On Sept. 27, at an unknown time, the rear license plate was stolen from his vehicle. It is unknown if the license plate was stolen when the vehicle was parked at his residence or when it was parked at various locations throughout the day. The owner estimated the value of the stolen license plate to be around $84.
On Sept. 28 at 12 p.m.: A resident of the 800 block of Mountain Avenue reported a theft from a mail package. According to the resident, someone stole an iPhone 15 from a mail package that was delivered to her residence and left on her front porch. The approximate retail value of the stolen cellular phone is $1,099.00.
On Sept. 28 at 12:21 p.m.: An anonymous resident of Westfield found a lost cell phone on Ripley Place and surrendered to Westfield Police for safekeeping. The phone is described as a black iPhone with a gold protective case.
On Sept. 30 at 1:31 p.m.: Subsequent to a motor vehicle stop on Lamberts Mill Road and Spruce Mill Lane, George Hahn, 60, Scotch Plains was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant from Clark. The person was released on scene on their own recognizance. The person was given a future court date to address the matter.
