Suspicious Car, Flashlights Shined At Westfield Yards Spotted: Blotter
The blotter also included a DWI arrest, fraud, and car burglaries.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A suspicious vehicle driving through Westfield with a person shining a flashlight into Westfield yards was among the reported incidents in the latest police blotter.
On April 11 at 3:49 a.m., a resident of Normandy Drive reported a suspicious incident that happened overnight.
Surveillance video captured a suspicious vehicle described as an older model dark-colored sedan traveling at a slow rate of speed towards Rahway Avenue at around 4 a.m.

It appears that the front passenger was using a handheld flashlight and shining it into the front yards of homes, said police.
The vehicle appeared to turn onto Rahway Avenue and was not seen again.

On April 8 at 12:17 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Hanford Place reported an incident of burglary and theft. According to the resident, on April 5 at around 6:30 p.m., her vehicle was parked on Quimby Street in Westfield. While the vehicle was parked, someone entered her vehicle without her consent and stole a $1,000 cellphone.
On April 9 at 6:56 a.m.: A Scudder Road resident reported that someone used their identity to access an account with a financial institution. The actor(s) then electronically transferred funds from the resident’s account. Currently, the victim has suffered a monetary loss. The resident additionally reports that they were the victim of identity theft. Specifically, that the unknown actor(s) tried to open lines of credit with a financial institution in their name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization or what exact information was used to open the account.
On April 9 at 8:54 a.m.: A resident in the 800 block of Sherbrooke Drive reported that they were the victim of identity theft. Specifically, someone opened a credit card account with a financial institution in their name. The resident said they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization or what information was used to open the account. The victim reports no financial loss at this time.
On April 9 at 11:43 p.m.: Someone entered Westfield in a stolen vehicle and committed a motor vehicle burglary on the 1300 block of Summit Avenue. The suspects removed about $1,500 worth of property from the vehicle. Westfield Police Officers found the suspects in the vehicle on Tamaques Way shortly after the burglary happened, at which time the suspect vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle was not reported stolen at the time of this incident.
On April 11 at 5:20 p.m.: A victim in the 100 block of W. North Avenue reported suspicious activity regarding her wireless phone service to her provider. It was later discovered that the victim's phone service had been fraudulently changed to an unknown device and used by an unknown suspect. The suspect also used the victim's phone and personal information to make purchases online and in stores. These purchases totaled approximately $6,289.
On April 12 at 1:02 a.m.: Gregory Hatzisavvas, 37, Westfield, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, after being found in operation a motor vehicle near East Broad Street and West North Avenue. Gregory Hatzisavvas was taken to Westfield Police Department where he was processed and released to a sober adult with a future court date.
