Suspicious Vehicles, Fraud Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police reported trying to stop one car when it turned off its lights and sped away.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Suspicious vehicles, fraud, and an abandoned bike reported on Westfield.

Police Blotter from May 7 to May 13:

On May 10 at 9:55 a.m.: A mountain bicycle was recovered on the 100 block of North Chestnut Street after it was reported as abandoned. There was no identifiable information on the bicycle that would indicate a possible owner. The bicycle was brought to Westfield Police Headquarters and later secured.

On May 10 at 10:03 a.m.: A person reported they were the victim of fraud while conducting a transaction at a business in Westfield in the 800 block of Central Ave. The complainant reports a monetary wire transfer was sent to a fraudulent account after suspicious activity took place via email. At this time it is unknown if the complainant has suffered any monetary loss

On May 12 at 1:02 a.m.: Westfield Police Officers located a black Mercedes Benz coupe with dark tinted windows on Woodland Avenue and Wychwood Road. They tried to make a motor vehicle stop when the vehicle turned off its headlight and taillights then proceeded at a high rate of speed towards East Broad Street. The Mercedes then turned onto East Broad Street and headed towards Springfield Avenue when officers lost sight of the vehicle.

On May 13 at 6:58 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Saint Marks Avenue reported a suspicious vehicle in the area. The resident further stated that a white colored Range Rover had stopped in front of her vehicle and two suspects exited the Range Rover. These suspects, described only as "wearing hoodies", then walked around the caller's vehicle before returning to the Range Rover and departing. This Range Rover was later determined by Westfield Police to have been stolen earlier on this date from Closter.
