W4W Rocks Out on Sunday mornings

Presbyterian Church in Westfield Rocks a New Contemporary Service

WESTFIELD – The Presbyterian Church in Westfield may have a traditional history in the community, but it is offering a vibrant, new way to worship with a contemporary worship experience called Wired4Worship. Kevin Wilkin, the director of the initiative, says that since October, the services are growing in numbers.

“We opened the doors to Westminster Hall officially in mid-October and the word is spreading about what we are doing here,” he said. The Sunday morning service at 9:45 features music by a praise band, Power Up, with congregational singing that is enhanced by projected words on a screen. The message is presented by one of the three pastors of the church.
With a laid-back, come as you are feel to Wired4Worship, coffee is served as well as breakfast snacks. “We encourage folks to grab a cup of coffee, greet each other and join in with the worship experience,” Mr. Wilkin said.

Because Westminster Hall at 140 Mountain Avenue is an intimate, newly remodeled space, the atmosphere is inviting. Diane Hansen, one of the ministry’s biggest supporters feels that the use of Facebook is a great means of reaching people who might be interested in the service. “We are a bit non-traditional in our approach to the worship experience. Through the use of Facebook, we are getting the word out to people who might not have church as a regular part of their life,” she said.
