Westfield Area YMCA to Host Stroke Recovery Open House on Wednesday, January 28

The Westfield Area YMCA invites the community to a free Stroke Recovery Open House on Wednesday, January 28, from 12:00-2:00pm at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield. The event is open to stroke survivors, their families, and caregivers, and is designed to provide valuable resources and information to support recovery and overall well-being.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the Westfield Area YMCA's Stroke Recovery Exercise Program, which launched at the beginning of 2025. Classes are led by certified stroke recovery specialists and designed to support stroke survivors beyond traditional rehabilitation by enhancing function, optimizing abilities, and helping regain independence in daily life.

  • Addressing stroke-related physical and functional challenges
  • Providing tools to build greater independence and improve activities of daily living
  • Teaching techniques that can be safely practiced at home
  • Fostering social connection and emotional support alongside physical recovery

The program currently meets on Wednesdays at the Main Y Facility from 1:45-2:30pm, and due to growing interest, is expanding to offer a new Friday class starting January 30, held from 12:30-1:15pm.

At the open house, experts and representatives from organizations such as Adler Aphasia Center, Bioness Medical, NeroTechR3, VIVISTIM (Vagus Nerve Stimulation), Overlook Medical Center Stroke Program, and Atlantic Health (Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy, Stroke Support Group, Stroke Program) will be present to answer questions and share resources. Light refreshments will be served.
