Westfield BOE To Host First Bond Information Session Tonight

Westfield, NJ -- The Westfield Board of Education meeting will be a busy one tonight with two new members being sworn in and a discussion of the school’s bond referendum.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Roosevelt Intermediate School Auditorium on 301 Clark Street.

Richard Mattessich and Lucy Biegler will retire from the Board, with their seats filled by Charles R. Ostroff and Robert S. Garrison.

Ostroff and Garrison were elected onto the board during the recent November election along with Gretchan Ohlig, who served on the Board since 2012.

Around 8:30 p.m., the Board will speak to residents about the Jan. 26 school bond referendum. This is the first in a series of four public meetings that will be held in January prior to the public’s vote.

There are two proposals in the bond; one which addresses important safety, security, and technology renovations in the Westfield Public Schools, and the second reflecting needed upgrades to intermediate school auditoriums. A total of 40 percent of the costs of all the projects will be funded by the State, if the bond is approved.

• Thursday, Jan. 14, 7 p.m. – Roosevelt Intermediate School Auditorium, 301 Clark Street (This meeting will be hosted by schools’ PTOs).

• Tuesday, Jan. 19, 7:30 p.m. – Board of Education building, 302 Elm Street, Room 105 (Board of Education meeting will include discussion of bond)

• Thursday, Jan. 21, 10:15 a.m. – Board of Education building, 302 Elm Street, Room 105 (This meeting will be hosted by the Parent Teacher Council and the schools’ PTOs).
