Westfield Education Association Announces Scholarship Recipients
Two Westfield seniors have been chosen for scholarships based on academic achievement, school activities and community service.

Two seniors from the Class of 2015 have been chosen for this year’s Westfield Education Association (WEA) scholarships based on academic achievement, school activities and community service.
James Hunter and Christopher Romano were chosen for scholarships for their efforts both in the classroom and outside of the classroom.
Hunter organized and facilitated “The Guy Thing”, a school organization which helped male underclassmen at Westfield High School get used to the high school and assisted them with any situations or social issues they might encounter, WEA officials said. Additionally, Hunter is a member of the National Honor Society and was a member of both the football and lacrosse teams on the town club, PAL and high school levels.

Romano served as the president of the Student Government Organization and was enrolled in a total of 13 Advanced Placement and Honors courses during his high school career, WEA officials said. Romano participated in numerous extracurricular activities, including Jazz band, symphony orchestra and stage band, and he was also a member of the cross country running team, track and field, and Westfield Inter-County Youth Soccer League.
In addition to Hunter and Romano, a third area student was chosen for a scholarship from the Westfield Education Association. Dan Federico, a senior at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, was chosen for the Barry Judd Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is given to a Westfield Education Association member’s college-bound child in memory of Barry Judd, former longtime Westfield High School Teacher.
