Westfield Firefighters Battle House Fire In Extreme Frigid Temps
Westfield firefighters, police and EMS responded to the garage fire on Tuesday night in Town.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A fire that sparked in the garage of a three-story home in Town prompted the response of firefighters, police, and EMS on frigid cold Tuesday night.
On Jan. 21 at 5:41 p.m., the first Westfield Fire Department units arrived at the 3-story single-family dwelling in the 100 block of Wychwood Road at 5:45 p.m., to find fire showing from the attached garage, said Westfield Fire Chief Michael Duelks.
Immediately, firefighters began an aggressive fire attack while searching inside the home to confirm everyone was safely evacuated.

Union County Fire Mutual Aid companies staged at Fire Headquarters to cover the town for additional calls. Off-duty Westfield Fire Department members were recalled to provide supplementary assistance.
The Westfield Police Department aided with street closers, traffic, and crowd control. The Westfield Rescue Squad helped to provide firefighter rehabilitation. No injuries were reported.

The fire was controlled at 6:15 p.m., with Fire Department personnel operating into the evening hours, said Duelks.
The fire was investigated by The Westfield Fire Prevention Bureau. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature.
Duelks commended all the first responders' for their help while battling the elements of the extremely frigid temperatures.
The Westfield Fire Department reminds everyone that working smoke alarms save lives. Make sure that your smoke alarms are tested monthly and are less than 10 years old.
