Westfield Man Chewed Off Victim's Ear, Took Fentanyl Pills
Koryn Daniel Kraemer, 25, told authorities he thought the man at the train station was a "robot" trying to kill him.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A Westfield man was sentenced to more than three years in prison for biting off another man's ear and some of his face because he thought the victim was a "robot," according to authorities.
Koryn Daniel Kraemer, 25, pled guilty to a lesser charge of attempted assault regarding the January 2023 attack at TriMet’s Cleveland MAX Station in Oregon, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced on Thursday.
He had previously been charged with second-degree assault.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2023, Kraemer approached a 78-year-old man, at the train station's platform area off Northeast 8th Street in Gresham and physically attacked him.
Kraemer reportedly bit and chewed off the victim's ear and some skin in the area of the victim's ear and face, said authorities.

After his arrest, Kraemer told officers that he believed the victim was a "robot" trying to kill him based on how the victim smelled.
Kraemer also said he spit out the flesh of the victim that he had eaten and that police officers had saved his life by separating him from "the robot," said police.
Kraemer admitted to consuming alcohol, cannabis, and fentanyl pills.
Judge Shelley Russell sentenced Kraemer to serve 40 months in prison followed by 20 months of post-prison supervision.
"As he has substantial family support out-of-state, he has expressed an intention to apply to serve his term of post-prison supervision elsewhere," according to Schmidt.
According to Oberlin College, Kraemer had played as a soccer goalie in 2015 and 2016. His player profile lists his hometown as Westfield and that he graduated from Westfield High School.
Kraemer will remain in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections for the remainder of his imposed sentence. In January 2023, TriMet issued a lifetime ban for Kraemer.
