Westfield Officer Saves Unconscious Overdose Victim With Narcan
Officer Richard Gill was commended for his quick actions on Thursday.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Police Officer is being commended for saving an unconscious overdose victim on Thursday afternoon.
On April 13 at around 3:28 p.m., Westfield Police got a 911 call reporting a person down on the 200 block of Clark Street.
Officer Richard Gill arrived within 3 minutes and found a 40-year-old Westfield man down on the sidewalk, said police.

The man was both unconscious and unresponsive. Gill performed an initial patient assessment and suspected the person was the victim of a drug overdose, said police.
EMTs arrived, and based on Gill’s assessment, delivered a 4 MG dose of Naloxone Hydrchloride (or nasal "Narcan").

Gill then delivered a second 4 MG second dose of "Narcan" several minutes later. After the second dose, the man regained consciousness, said police.
Police tried to give the man further treatment and take him to a local hospital, however, the man refused medical attention against medical advice.
"The Westfield Police Department is extremely proud of each and every one of its officers and the outstanding work they do. All have been issued and are equipped with 'Narcan'," said police.
As of Thursday at 5 p.m., the Westfield Police Department has responded to 16,935 calls for service thus far this year.
