Westfield Opens First Parklet

The parklet on Elm Street in front of Theresa's and Sweet Waters, will serve as a place where locals can gather to eat, drink and hangout.

WESTFIELD, NJ -- Westfield opened its first parklet on Elm Street in front of Theresa's and Sweet Waters where locals can gather to eat, drink and hangout.

The Department of Public Works finished working on the parklet on June 29. Parklets are extensions of the sidewalk from the curb into the street. They are installations of public seating, art, plants and other elements, typically located in one or more parking spots and protected from traffic.

Westfield is implementing its parklet as a pilot coinciding with the sidewalk café season. Using only one parking space, the experience and public use will be evaluated as time goes on.
