Westfield PD Alerts Public After Attempted Home Burglaries, Car Thefts
Police said the thieves appeared to be targeting vehicles in several attempted burglaries. They are asking residents to be vigilant.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Police said there were several attempted home burglaries, and vehicle thefts, on Saturday night in Westfield as they are sharing home security reminders with residents.
Westfield Police reported four incidents, all taking place between 7:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on October 7. Police said that unknown suspects entered an open garage on the 1000 block of Minisink Way, burglarized an apparently-unlocked vehicle on the 500 block of West South Avenue, tried to steal from a residence on the 800 block of Tice Place, and attempted a vehicle theft on the 1100 block of Summit Avenue that evening.
"Vehicles appear to have been the target of the residential burglaries," police said, while reminding residents to be alert and safeguard their property.

"Secure your vehicles, safeguard your key fobs, lock your homes, and report all suspicious persons, vehicles and/or activities immediately via 9-1-1," police advised.
Police did not give any suspect information for the reported crimes.
