Westfield Ratifies 2-Year Contract With Teachers

A 2.85 percent increase in total salary for each year of the agreement is included in the contract.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Board of Education ratified a two-year contract with the Westfield Education Association (WEA) that includes a salary increase.

The contract, effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020, was settled at the Feb. 27 BOE meeting and represents about 588 teachers, nurses, librarians, guidance counselors, social workers, school psychologists, and educational specialists.

A 2.85 percent increase in total salary for each year of the agreement is included in the contract. This increase is in line with county and state averages, according to WBOE.

Under New Jersey’s Chapter 78, P.L. 2011, Westfield teachers will continue to be required to contribute to their health insurance each year of the contract and may continue to waive the school district insurance coverage if they have additional sources of health insurance.

Superintendent Margaret Dolan.

Members of the Westfield negotiating team included chief negotiator and former Board of Education member Christopher Langhart, current board members Brendan Galligan, Peggy Oster and Amy Root, Business Administrator Dana Sullivan, and Human Resources Specialist Barbara Ball.

On the WEA negotiating team were chief negotiator Scott Rutherford along with Gail Alston, Dominic Ceccio, Kim Schumacher, Lori Swanson, Diana Tessier, and Debbie Vezos.
