Westfield Resident Calls 911 As Burglar Seen Climbing Through Window: Blotter

The blotter also included Halloween decorations stolen and $400,000 fraudulently taken from a Westfield resident's home equity line.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A resident reported a home burglary in progress to their home last week, according to the Westfield Police blotter.

On Oct. 20 at 5:56 p.m., a resident of the 200 block of Seneca Place called 911 due to someone actively breaking into the home.

The resident reported seeing someone gaining entry into a window of the home.

Once the resident saw this, the suspect then fled the residence, said police.

The resident reported no items missing from the residence at this time.

Other Westfield Police Blotter items – Oct. 20 to Oct. 26:

On Oct. 20 at 2:02 a.m.: A resident of the 300 block of Massachusetts Street reported a theft of a Halloween decoration taken from the front lawn of her property, valued at around $50. A ceramic lawn decoration for $10 was also damaged in the process.

On Oct. 20 at 2:03 p.m.: A resident of the 200 block of Delaware Street reported two Halloween decorations taken from the front lawn of the property. The resident stated the Halloween decorations were last seen the night prior and is at a total loss of $70.

On Oct. 21 at 1:04 p.m.: The owner of a business on the 200 block of East South Avenue reported an act of fraud involving a business check in the amount of $8,759.49 that was mailed to a payee account. While in transit, the check was diverted and deposited into an account belonging to an unaffiliated financial institution.

On Oct. 22 at 1:40 p.m.: A resident in the 500 block of Kimball Turn reported a theft of property valued at around $300. According to the resident, he left a mail package on his front porch to be picked up by a mail carrier. However, prior to the item being picked up, it was stolen by an unknown actor.

On Oct. 23 at 7:43 p.m.: A resident of the 2000 block of Grandview Avenue reported a suspicious man on his property. The resident said he saw a male figure walking on his property. The resident further stated that as he exited his home the male in question left the area on foot in an unknown direction. A search was conducted with no findings to be reported.

On Oct. 24 at 1:37 p.m.: A resident of the 500 block of Rahway Avenue reported being a victim of fraudulent withdrawals from his bank account. The resident states that someone made fraudulent withdrawals without his approval or authorization in the amount of $1,700. A total of 17 fraudulent transactions were made and processed using PayPal payment platform.

On Oct. 25 at 1:26 a.m.: Jefferson Reyna, 24, North Plainfield, was arrested during an investigation after a motor vehicle stop in the 600 block of W. North Avenue. Reyna had an outstanding traffic warrant from North Plainfield Municipal Court. He was released on his own recognizance with a future mandatory North Plainfield Municipal Court date.

On Oct. 25 at 12:30 p.m.: A resident of the 600 block of Boulevard reported an incident of fraud. According to the resident throughout the month of September, someone made numerous fraudulent unauthorized withdrawals from her Home Equity Line of Credit account. The resident suffered a loss of $400,000 as result of these fraudulent transactions.

On Oct. 26 at 11 a.m.: A business owner of the 100 block of Elm Street reported an individual entered the business and removed an item which was displayed for sale. The individual then exited the business without paying. The item is valued at around $395.

On Oct. 26 at 5:06 p.m.: Westfield Police Department personnel responded to a disturbance at a local business in the 100 block of Central Avenue. On scene, they made contact with Alaric Chuy, 49, Piscataway, who was subsequently arrested on the strength of an NCIC Warrant (No Bail) issued by the Union County Sheriff's Office. Chuy also had additional criminal warrants for his arrest issued by the Riverdale Municipal Court and the Scotch Plains Municipal Court. He was subsequently processed and transported to Union County Jail.

On Oct. 26 at 9 p.m.: A Westfield resident reports attending a gathering at a residence in the 1200 block of Prospect Street. The victim states upon leaving the residence they realized they did not have their iPhone in their possession. The victim checked the property but was unable to locate their iPhone. The tracking system on the iPhone was later activated and it was determined it was in another jurisdiction that the victim had not previously been in. As such, an unknown actor removed the iPhone from the property without the victim's knowledge. The approximate value of the iPhone is more than $1,000.
