Westfield Schools Closed Wednesday, Uses Last Snow Day

Breaking: Westfield Public Schools will be closed Wednesday. This is the district's last available snow day for the school year.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, due to the impending snow storm. Union County College and Kean University are also closed on Wednesday.

The district has now used all available snow days in the school calendar for this year. If the district has to close schools for any additional days, they will have to open school during the scheduled spring break, starting with Friday, April 6, then Thursday, April 5.

As many as 18 inches of heavy, wet snow could fall, creating the potential for power outages across the state. The double-wave storm, the fourth possible nor'easter to hit New Jersey in three weeks, could be a "long-duration event" packing 45 mph winds. The bulk of the storm is expected to come in two waves, especially on Wednesday, and could extend the nor'easter to a 36-hour system.
