Westfield Student Awarded $1,000 Scholarship
Westfield resident Sarah Kasko, who is attending Longwood University, was selected as the recipient of the SNVC Undergraduate Scholarship.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield resident Sarah Kasko, who is attending Longwood University, has been selected to be the recipient of the 2017-18 SNVC $1,000 Undergraduate Scholarship.
Kasko began giving of herself when was a member of the Girl Scouts in the first grade and continued to participate in service projects for more than 11 years.
After two service trips to assists victims of natural disaster relief from severe flooding, Kasko states in her essay that she knew, “there was no way I could go away to college and not participate in leadership roles or community service.”

Before attending Longwood, she emailed the coach to ask to be considered for the position. The coach was impressed and gave her a spot on her team. She was the Longwood Cross Country Team manager from 2015-2017.
Kasko also serves as a resident assistant to more than 30 first-year students at Longwood.

She was recently inducted to Alpha Phi Omega, a National Service Fraternity where she currently participates in 35 hours of service each semester. Even during summer break she continues to assist others as a counselor at a camp for children with special needs.
Kasko's personal goal is to “be a better person every day.”
