Westfield, NJ -- Fourteen Westfield High School students had the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of the culture and language that they have been studying in school this spring.

During a trip to Italy, chaperoned by teachers Maria Santilli and Christina Cleaver, the students visited famous landmarks like the bell tower of the Duomo in Florence where they had a spectacular view of the city.

They marveled at Michelangelo’s David and took walks along the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River. Students also took a day trip to Pisa where they visited the famous leaning tower.

After three days in Florence they traveled to Rome before stopping for a visit in Assisi. In Rome students visited the coliseum, the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel as well all well-known squares and fountains.

“While practicing their Italian language skills, my students were able to gain firsthand insight into the art, history and people of Italy,” commented Italian teacher Mrs. Santilli. “They were wonderful ambassadors to Westfield at the same time.”
