WHS Hosts College Night

Hundreds of parents and students turned out for WHS’ annual college night on Thursday evening. According to Director of Counseling Services Ms. Maureen Mazzarese, representatives from 200 different schools were present at the event. Representatives offered information on admissions requirements, financial aid and the programs that the schools offer.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to come and see a wide variety of colleges, and see that there is a college for everyone,” said Mazzarese. “We have more colleges than ever this year, and that speaks to how they regard Westfield…. It speaks so highly of our school that representatives come here [and] they really like Westfield students.”

Mazzarese added that this is also the first year that WHS has hosted tech schools.

Said WHS senior Emily McLaine: “[College Night] is very useful. You get to know a lot about the schools you’re interested in and the programs you want to apply to, and you get to meet people who went there.”

WHS junior Jimmy Hunter agreed: “It’s really good because the idea of college seems really intimidating, so the fact that it breaks it down makes it more accessible without having to go all over (for college visits).”

Mazzarese noted that College Night is “a longstanding annual event” and that WHS plans to host it again next year.
