Willow Grove Paving on Tap for Next Week

Paving likely for middle of week unless milling reveals surprises.

The Willow Grove Road repaving project continues next week when the actual paving of the road is expected to begin.

The contractor spent Thursday and Friday of this week tearing up the existing roadway in order to move the project forward. Following this the Department of Public Works will conduct an analysis of the subfloor of the existing roadway to see if any work needs to be done on the subfloor before the new road is put in. Town Engineer Kris McAloon said the subfloor analysis could rearrange the timeline for next week.

McAloon said that if the subfloor looks weak or unstable, then the beginning of next week will be dedicated to focusing on fixing the subfloor. If not, then the paving will begin on schedule on Tuesday. A subfloor repair job will likely push the paving back two to three days, starting the work on Thursday most likely. McAloon said it will take several days to actually pave the road.

With the street torn up, Willow Grove will see some road detours next week during the project. The main work comes as Tamaques Elementary School is being utilized next week for the beginning of soccer practice for Westfield High School. McAloon said that residents or soccer participants who need to access the neighborhood should plan ahead with alternate routes, because there will be some detours to accommodate the project. The work is being done in August to prevent major traffic delays during the school year.

"The residents may need to find alternate access," McAloon said. "In case the situation has the primary point of access being restricted."
