Woman In Wheelchair Hit By Car Near Westfield School: Police

A woman being pushed in a wheelchair near Jefferson Elementary School suffered injuries after she was hit by a car, Westfield Police said.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A woman being pushed in a wheelchair was hit by a car near Jefferson Elementary School in Westfield last week, according to Westfield Police.

A black 2020 Toyota 4Runner out of Westfield hit a pedestrian and woman being pushed in a wheelchair while backing out of a parking space, Michael Walsh of Westfield Police told Patch.

No injuries have been reported at this time by the individual pushing the wheelchair, police said. But the 48-year-old woman in the wheelchair was rushed to University Hospital due to injuries, which included loss of consciousness and cuts to her face.

The 53-year-old female driver was not issued any summons at the time of the accident, Walsh said.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Westfield Traffic Bureau.
