Dispatcher Honored for "Hero-Grade" Instincts That Saved a Life and Made State History

HACKENSACK, NJ – In the world of emergency response, true heroes are those who see the crisis before it fully unfolds. EMS Dispatcher Sean Kennedy of Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) is one of those heroes, and he is now being celebrated through CentralSquare Technologies' first-ever "Nominate a Hero" program for his exceptional, life-saving judgment.

On April 4, 2025, Kennedy fielded a 9-1-1 call for a table saw injury. While the initial details didn't meet the strict criteria for activating the newly implemented Whole Blood Response protocol, Kennedy's seasoned intuition told him the situation was more critical than it appeared. Trusting his experience over the checklist, he made the decisive call to dispatch the specialized blood unit, anticipating a potential catastrophic hemorrhage.

His foresight was tragically accurate. Paramedics arriving on the scene found the patient in profound hemorrhagic shock. Thanks to Kennedy's proactive decision, the blood unit was already en route, enabling the first-ever field administration of whole blood by a ground ALS unit in New Jersey and directly saving the patient's life.
