Essex County Woman Charged With Elderly Man's Murder In East Orange

The 90-year-old man's death was caused by compression of the throat and fracture of the larynx, authorities say.

Authorities have charged an Essex County resident with the murder of a 90-year-old East Orange man.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities are charging that Jocelyn Dahta, 32, of Orange, murdered Henry Boyd in his South Harrison Street apartment on Feb. 9.

Prosecutors stated that Boyd allegedly knew Dahta prior to his murder.

Police arrested Dahta on Tuesday night and transported her to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

Her bail was set at $750,000, authorities stated.

Following an autopsy, Boyd’s death was ruled a homicide that was caused by compression of the throat and fracture of the larynx, prosecutors previously stated.

An active investigation is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the East Orange Police with assistance from the New Jersey State Police.
