Hazardous Weather, Flooding Possible In Essex County, Forecasters Say

Forecasters have issued a "hazardous weather outlook" and "coastal flood advisory" that will start Wednesday night.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Weather forecasters have issued a “hazardous weather outlook” and “coastal flood advisory” for parts of Essex County that will start at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and last until 3 a.m. on Thursday.

Wednesday's forecast shows heavy winds and widespread precipitation throughout New Jersey. And for some of the state, that may mean intense snowfall, ice accumulation and difficult commutes. Read More: Snow In Wednesday Forecast For NJ (See Storm Timeline)

The National Weather Service said a hazardous weather outlook will be in effect for northeast New Jersey, including the eastern portion of Essex County.

According to forecasters:

“Minor flooding is expected in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline … Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding.”

“Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property,” NWS forecasters advised.

Forecasters also said that anyone who must drive should allow extra time, as some roads may be closed.

“Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth,” forecasters said. “Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.”

Public transit users should also keep an eye on the situation, officials say.

Bus riders traveling through the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City should check with their carriers to see if the weather will affect their commute, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey stated Wednesday morning.

“Due to expected adverse weather today, some carriers may experience delays and/or cancellations,” Port Authority officials said.
