West Orange Man Concocts Cop ‘Abduction’ Story To Trick Girlfriend: Police
A West Orange man told police he was abducted by plainclothes officers, beaten and dumped onto Mississippi Avenue.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A West Orange man who told police he was abducted by plainclothes officers and dumped on a township street has now been charged with making up the story up to trick his girlfriend, authorities say.
Police charged Victor White, 24, of West Orange, with filing a false report after he allegedly admitted that he fabricated the story to “cover up that he was cheating on his girlfriend,” a West Orange town spokesperson said.
White and his girlfriend previously alleged that on Aug. 31, he was walking along Maple Street when two plainclothes officers in a dark-colored SUV stopped him around 3 a.m. for being drunk in public, authorities said.

White claimed that the officers arrested him, beat him and dumped him onto Mississippi Avenue, authorities stated.
West Orange police investigated White’s claims, contacting the Montclair and Orange Police Departments in an attempt to match his descriptions to the officers alleged to be involved in the beating. However, his claims “couldn’t be substantiated,” authorities stated.

During further questioning, White allegedly admitted that he concocted the story so that “his girlfriend would not discover he had been with another woman,” police said.
White may face up to 18 months in prison and a fine up to $10,000 if convicted of filing a false report, authorities said.
The allegedly false report isn’t the only recent case West Orange police have dealt with. Last week, a Fanwood teenager was arrested after she claimed she was robbed at gunpoint by two West Orange teens during a fake marijuana deal.
