West Orange School Board Member Resigns, District Seeks New Candidates

Jennifer Tunnicliffe has resigned from the board. The district has posted an official vacancy announcement.

WEST ORANGE, NJ -- The West Orange Board of Education is seeking a new member.

Jennifer Tunnicliffe has resigned from the board, administrators said Friday. No additional information was released about the reason for her resignation.

The district has posted an official vacancy announcement, which can be seen online here. The open term will run until Dec. 31, 2024.

Letters of interest (resumes optional) will be accepted through Jan. 17. Interviews will be conducted on Jan. 2.

The position will be placed on the ballot at the annual election for Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

Qualifications include:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A citizen of the United States of America
  • Able to read and write
  • A resident of West Orange for at least (1) year preceding the date of appointment
  • Not directly/indirectly interested in a contract with a claim against the Board
  • Registered to vote in the District
  • Not disqualified as a voter pursuant to NJSA 19:4-1
  • Has not been convicted of any crime of the first or second degree or other crimes set forth in, and pursuant to, NJSA 18A:12-1

Tunnicliffe was sworn in for her second term in January 2023. She carried the most votes in the previous election, garnering 7,782 votes that year.
