Every so often I want to bring you a tidbit I spy "About Town" that will help you move your holiday responsibilities along and make things a little easier for you.
Need to make quick holiday cookies? No time to be Paula Deen or burn water in the kitchen like I do? I've got you covered. In , while picking up the no-fail Really Big Gingerbread Man Kit, I spotted the Trader Joe's Cookie Workshop, complete with do-it-yourself cookie dough, three cutters and four kinds of icing, all piled into a nifty, fun little package for $3.99!
Best part? When someone asks if the cookies are homemade, you can honestly answer, "Yes!"

When I make a new friend, one of the first things I ask her is "Do you still have both your parents?" I was really the first among my friends to lose both of mine, and I feel the loss most especially when I see mothers lunching with their daughters, shopping, walking down Westwood Avenue arms linked carelessly together as they chat.
The has a lovely way to encourage that kind of bond. Come to the Mother/Daughter Book Group discussion today to review author Elise Broach's New York Times Bestseller Masterpiece and mingle over refreshments.
Why not make a longer day of it? Julia Roberts' new film, "Eat, Pray, Love," is being shown earlier at 2 p.m. You can see the film, step out for some holiday shopping in town, early dinner, then come back for the book discussion and meet some other fabulous area mothers and daughters.
'Tis the season to celebrate your family!
GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH MAKES SYMBOLIC PLEDGES
Westwood's at the Five Corners held a special Sunday Stewardship Brunch recently to allow its leadership to close the year on a high note. Each member placed a memento on the altar symbolic of a personal blessing to be returned to God, the church and the congregants. Some of these were a wallet, a first aid kit, several books. Quite a dedication and a deliberate demonstration of faith to move forward in continued good works.
LOVED ONES REMEMBERED WITH A TOAST
Family members of those who have passed find comfort in remembering their loved ones in a variety of ways as is evident at the Westwood Cemetery. Today I found a few gravesites decorated with the evidence of the deceased's favorite beverages. What a beautiful thing to see so many people loved and tended to even posthumously.
The purveyors of coffee should be pleased to know there are such big java fans, even in the afterlife…
