ABOUT TOWN: Still Time to Do Good Deed for the Holidays

Bank of America and woman's club in Westwood still collecting gifts for military families

There is still time to help at the holidays, even right after Christmas, when the fuss dies down a little bit. The and the , has set up a "Holiday Wish Tree" at the bank's Westwood Avenue location. The tree is filled to the brim with candy canes linked to little tags bearing gifts you can buy and donate to the families of U.S. men and women via the Teaneck armory.

Stop by the Westwood branch of the Bank of America and drop your gift off by Dec. 28.

You get to keep the candy cane!

TEDDY BEARS FOR CAMBODIA

Still want to spread some holiday cheer? Send a mini teddy bear to Sacrifice Families and Orphans Development Association (SFODA), a Cambodian orphanage located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I spent part of my summer with 54 orphans there--amazing children with little more than the clothes on their backs.

They have nothing soft. No pillows, no mattresses to cover the wooden slatted boards they sleep on, no toys and certainly no plush little bears to hold onto and call their own.

The bears cost $1.45 each. To purchase a bear to send and add your name to a card, contact me at hilaryholland2003@yahoo.com.

The bears will be shipped right after the New Year directly to the orphanage in Cambodia.

VACATION CAMP IN WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP

When my son was young enough to need school-break childcare coverage it was always a major source of stress for me. Affordability, trust and reliability were key in obtaining short-term childcare. The has taken these concerns and developed a post-holiday "camp."

Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade can participate in three days filled with games, arts and crafts and swimming--activities they'd normally find in summer camp.

The camp runs Dec. 27-29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $70 per day for the general public ($60 for YJCC members) and registration is necessary. Contact Steven Mark at 201-666-6610 ext. 244 or smark@yjcc.org.
