SAY IT ISN’T SO

Here in America, on average, we consume 71% of our daily calories from carbohydrates.

I have been trying to write this e-mail for two days. Every time I start, it becomes so technical that I can barely understand it myself. I have been trying to come up with a buffer for this fact but there is no way to hide it: Here in America, on average, we consume 71% of our daily calories from carbohydrates.

Most of those carbohydrates are from corn, wheat, and soy. In reality, our biggest enemy is sugar. Everyone knows that soda and bread are carbohydrates. To simplify things even further, we can say that most processed foods are carbohydrates, or contain carbohydrate fillers. And yes, this includes meat products. Did you know that a beef product only has to be 60% beef to remain a beef product according to the FDA? This does not exclude the chicken fingers we serve to our kids. Don’t be alarmed, it has gone on for years. That’s why all the up-and-coming fast food restaurants do their best to promote “100% ground beef” and “all-natural” ingredients.

My point is: 71% of any food is too much! Strive for variety. Remember what you see isn’t’ always what you get!

To whom much is given, much is required.
