LACE DAY IN BERGEN COUNTY - CANCELED


The Bergen County Metropolitan Chapter of the International Organization of Lace’s annual Lace Day in Westwood, NJ, on Saturday, November 3, presents an opportunity for you to see lace being created as well as view an extensive display of lace projects, both completed and in progress, on that day.  You may even get to experience what it is like to make bobbin lace on the “TRY ME” pillow available for those interested!

The Lace Chapter’s 24th Annual Lace Day will be presented at the ELKS BPO Westwood Lodge, 505 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The current year’s theme, “A YEAR OF LACE,” will be featured in Lace Making Demonstrations along with an extensive Lace Exhibit, both of which are open to the public.  Admission is free.  Vendors selling books, patterns and supplies, such as thread, bobbins and other lace making tools, will also be present. 


A Children’s “Hands On” class ($5 fee) to create a unique bobbin lace project will be held on Saturday, November 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  An adult accompanying the child must be on the premises during the class.  Pre-registration is required.

On Sunday, November 4, the following workshops will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.:




DESIGNED FOR THE TRUE BEGINNER



  • Beginning Bobbin Lace Class ($25 Class Fee – plus a $20 kit fee which includes all required supplies OR $5 rental kit for the day)


 


FOR THOSE WITH PRIOR BOBBIN LACE MAKING EXPERIENCE   



  • Bruges Bloemwork ($35 Class Fee) – Bruges flower lace or Bloemwork is a type of Belgian lace originating in the 19th century and is characterized by large flowers made with coarse thread, usually linen.    



  • Russian Tape Lace ($35 Class Fee) – This is a fascinating lace made with few bobbins and characterized by a heavier patterned gimp. 



All Sunday workshops include the cost of lunch. 



Pre-registration is required for all workshops.
