Pascack Valley Teacher Of The Year Honored By County Administrators

Argine Safari, a music teacher, was named the 2016-17 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year.

HILLSDALE, NJ — Argine Safari was honored by her superiors Tuesday for being named the 2016-17 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year for Bergen County.

Argine Safari, an award-winning music teacher at Pascack Valley High School, has been named the 2016-17 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year. She has taught at the school for 11 years.

The Bergen County Association of School Administrators honored Safari for her "outstanding achievements in teaching, dedicated service to her students, and her service to the county and state," reads a quote on a plaque the ASA presented to her. Safari co-founded Stage Scene and Song Performing Arts.

In 2010, Safari received the Distinguished Secondary School Scholar Award from Princeton University.
Safari earned several degrees, including in business and finance from Brooklyn College and degrees from Yerevan State Musical College in Armenia, Moscow State Conservatory in Russia and in Education Supervision from Rutgers University.

Before coming to Pascack Valley, Safari conducted the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
