Remembering A Fallen Soldier With A Halloween Celebration
Locals celebrated the life of Sgt. Christopher Hrbek with a Halloween costume party, a fitting tribute for a man who loved the spooky holiday.
Area residents dressed up for Halloween not just for candy and fun on Saturday night, but to remember a fallen neighbor.
To honor the memory of Sgt. Christopher Hrbek, a Marine from Westwood who died in January at age 25 while fighting in Afghanistan. Halloween was Hrbek's favorite holiday.
The event also served as a fundraiser for the Westwood High School Memorial Fund, which is intended to redesign the memorial garden at the school. It also raised money for the The Sgt. Hrbek Memorial Fund.

"What a wonderful event for the siblings, family and friends to have, after all it was Chris's favorite time of the year," said Hrbek's stepfather, James Hodges.
Both of Hrbek's brothers are firefighters and Westwood named him an honorary firefighter after his death. President Obama signed a bill in June that renamed the Westwood post office after Hrbek.
