Washington Twp. Celebrates Season With Tree Lighting

Chilly temps don't keep revelers away

Depsite the chilly wind and cold temperatures, Washington Township residents rung in the holiday season with their annual tree lighting ceremony Sunday night.

Led by local city officials, folks gathered on the front lawn of the municipal building to sing Christmas carols, drink hot chocolate (which was donated by the local ambulance squad), and welcome jolly old St. Nick to town.

The festivities began with Garrett Euka singing "O Holy Night," and followed by his younger sister 4th grader Allyana Euka leading the crowd in a rendition of "Rudolph the Red Nose Raindeer."  Washington Twp. Mayor Janet Sobkowicz performed the countdown to the lighting, and the girl scouts welcomed the man of the hour with a lively chorus of "Here comes Santa Claus."

Santa arrived to bring the celebration to a close and hand out candy to the kids.
