2 Pedestrians Killed By Cars In Sayreville Over The Weekend
A woman was hit Friday on Washington Rd. and a man was killed Saturday on Rt. 9 as they tried to cross roads during the darkest time of year

SAYREVILLE, NJ — It was a tragic weekend on Sayreville roadways: Not one, but two people were killed in two separate incidents while attempting to cross busy roadways during the darkest time of the year.
First, a 69-year old woman died after she was struck by a vehicle on Friday night, Nov. 17 on Washington Road. The woman was identified as Janina Grzelczak, of Brooklyn, New York. The man who hit her is a 34-year-old resident of the Parlin section of Sayreville, police said. He was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer east on Washington Road when he struck the woman at approximately 6:14 p.m. Friday. Police the woman was hit as she attempted to cross the roadway midblock and not in the crosswalk.
The police responded to a 911 call and found the victim lying in the roadway. She was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy where she was pronounced dead at approximately 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Then on Saturday evening, Nov. 18, a man was hit by several cars trying to cross Rt. 9. The man, whose identity has not been verified, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:06 p.m. Saturday. Original Patch article on his death: Man Hit By Several Cars In Sayreville, Killed
The initial impact was from a Red Saturn SUV traveling in the fast lane of Rt. 9 North near the Starbucks. The man was struck and thrown by the vehicle and landed in the center lane of Rt. 9 South where he was then stuck by multiple vehicles including a black Mitsubishi Sedan.

Authorities are looking for additional vehicles that were involved in the fatal crash. An autopsy is pending with the Middlesex County Medical Examiner.
No charges have been filed in either death.
