Celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day at The Gateway Family YMCA

YMCA presents National Senior Health & Fitness Day

UNION COUNTY, NJ – The Gateway Family YMCA will join an estimated 1,000 local groups to celebrate the 22nd Annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day (NSHFD) on May 27th, 2015. As an official host site, the Y will hold information sessions and community classes on the 27th.

On this day, The Gateway Family YMCA will join with an estimated 100,000 seniors across the country expected to help promote active, healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, good nutrition and preventive care. According to Krystal R. Canady, CEO, “Our National Senior Health & Fitness Day event is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make, renew, and revitalize their commitment to live healthier lives through better health and fitness.”

National Senior Health and Fitness Day at The Gateway Family YMCA takes place on May 27th at the Elizabeth Branch - 135 Madison Avenue, Elizabeth, Five Points Branch - 201 Tucker Avenue, Union, Rahway Branch - 1564 Irving Street, Rahway, and Wellness Center Branch - 1000 Galloping Hill Road, Union.

The Gateway Family YMCA – Rahway Branch will be offering the following classes free to all adults on May 27th: Aqua Stretch and Flex 9:30-10:15am, Silver Sneakers 10:30-1:15am, Aqua Cardio 11:45-12:30pm, Yoga Flow 8:00-8:00pm and Zumba 7:15-8:15pm. In addition, there will be a Senior Nutrition Talk with Christa Peterson from the Carteret Shop Rite 11:30-12:30pm.

The Gateway Family YMCA –Elizabeth Branch will be offering the following free opportunities to all adults: 9:00-10:00am Blood Pressure and BMI testing, 10:00-11:00am Work with a Trainer to learn about cardiovascular machines and strength training. All branches will have wellness information available.

National Senior Health & Fitness Day is held on the last Wednesday in May in support of Older Americans Month and National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. The program, the largest of its kind, is organized by the Mature Market Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for professionals who work with older adults.
