Ciclovia To Be Held Sunday In New Brunswick

Three miles of New Brunswick streets will be closed to vehicular traffic; activity stations, including a rock climbing wall, will be set up.

The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., promotes open streets and active living, with more than 15 activity stations on a three-mile route.

Those three miles of roads will be closed to vehicular traffic for much of Sunday morning and afternoon, according to a news release from the city.

The route has no beginning or end, but participants can walk, run, bike or skateboard in the streets. There will also be a pop-up skate park, a rock climbing wall, a Fun Bus, a bike rodeo, music and art activities, and group fitness classes, including yoga and Crossfit.

In Spanish, Ciclovia means bike path. In Bogota, Colombia, where Ciclovia began, streets are closed every Sunday. Similar events are now held in more than 200 cities throughout the world.

Last year in New Brunswick, more than 10,000 residents and visitors participated in Ciclovia.

Sunday’s event is free and open to the public. Two more Ciclovia events will be held in the city later this year, on June 14 and Oct. 4.
